studio profile

Stefano D’Elia studied architecture at the IUAV University of Venice and completed his academic training at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL). Upon returning to Italy in 2011, he graduated with honors, presenting a thesis titled “Lisbon’s River Pools.”

After a period of collaboration with various architectural firms in Italy, he moved to Berlin, where he worked at BFM Architekten. There, he contributed to several projects and participated in international competitions, later overseeing their implementation. In 2017, he relocated to South Tyrol and began collaborating with several local studios.

In 2018, he founded desarchitettura, a practice rooted in his international experience and dedicated to developing projects across different scales. The design process is conceived as a means of understanding and reinterpreting context. He works on both public and private commissions, focusing his research on urban and architectural design. He regularly takes part in national and international design competitions, receiving awards and recognition.

Alongside his professional work, he has been involved in academic teaching at various European universities. In 2014, he worked as an assistant at IUAV University of Venice during the intensive W.A.V.E. workshops. In collaboration with architect Franziska Käuferle, he taught at Bauhaus Universität Weimar in 2022 and at Technische Universität Graz in 2023.
